VIP project update – May 2019

National Grid is continuing to progress its landscape enhancement plans to replace seven pylons at Dunford Bridge with an underground solution.

More than 100 people came to our public consultation events in December 2018 to find out more and have their say on our developing proposals. Attendees included local residents and business representatives, as well as access groups interested in our plans for the diversion and reinstatement of the Trans Pennine Trail.

The main topics discussed at the sessions and in feedback were:

• Potential landscape enhancement benefits
• Environmental mitigation
• Trans Pennine Trail diversion
• Construction traffic management
• The potential for any future re-opening of the railway along the Trans Pennine Trail

Members of the public were also given the opportunity to see computer-generated images of what the landscape might look like with the overhead line removed.

The valuable feedback we received on our plans during and after the events is continuing to guide the development of our planning application. We intend to submit this to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council later this year.
