Bridging the gap on the TPT

Completion of new temporary bridge marks major project milestone

We’ve reached a crucial milestone in our project to transform the skyline along part of the TPT. On Thursday (18th November 2021), we completed the construction of a new 40m temporary bridge across the River Don.

The bridge is an essential part of the new diversion route for the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT), which once open will allow us bury new cables beneath the existing trail and then remove the seven pylons and 1.5km of overhead line.

Despite being several years in planning, the project team took only a matter of days to carefully install the new structure into position.

Located where the TPT diversion crosses the River Don, it will be suitable for all Trail users and allow residents and visitors to enjoy spectacular new views along the upper Don valley.

The diverted trail will be opening in the coming weeks, and we hope you’ll come along to see it for yourself. Current TPT users should note that the diversion will be suitable for all current trail users.
